This work was created in response to the theme ‘What are you trying to say?’ for the Studio Melt Annual Contemporary Jewellery Exhibition 2024.
Seasons Cycle is an opportunity to meditate on life cycles, our relationship with consumption and our connection with nature - a calling to slow down and deeply consider even our smallest actions, and the importance of reconnecting with our natural world.
This playful and interactive art piece can adorn the body or the home, consisting of one loop of 108 hand brushed, hand crafted paper beads, some reincarnated from previous art installations, including one crafted for High Tea With Mrs Woo x Studio Melt store in 2022, others are infused and coloured with dye sourced from the Flowering Gum ‘Corymbia Ficifolia’.
A repetition of 4 different bead hues represents the seasonal cycles, the auspicious number 108 is said to bring us closer to our true source.
